What will I be doing?

In this journey into the world of portraiture, you will "meet" some of the many artists who have created portraits of others as well as of themselves (self-portraits) from New York's Museum of Modern Art, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and from the Indigenous Nations of Turtle Island. You will take a closer look at their work, notice the different elements displayed, and self-reflect upon the themes of the artwork. From those artworks, you will find 6 visual elements that you like, make a decision dice, and create a pattern for your own portrait!

With a classmate, you will curate 4 portraiture artworks for a mini-art exhibition based on the theme of Family Identity

You will also learn about the basics of portraiture via the UK's National Portrait Gallery. At the end, you will have the chance to create a self-portrait or a portrait of a family member using the pattern you have worked on previously as the background.
